Why Start a Digital Business?

When Donetta and I get the opportunity to meet new people as we travel, the question about what we do and how we do it almost always comes up.

People want to know because they tell us they dream of traveling and experiencing the same type of freedom some day. Then there's often that sad look, followed by a pause, and then the response about how they will probably never be that lucky.

Their words, not ours.

Unfortunately so many in our country have been led to believe such a lifestyle is only for those who are wealthy, retired, or cosmically fortunate in some way that can't be figured out by mere mortals.

So life is reduced to the ideal they will need to grind day in and day out in the hope down the road, at some distant mile marker, they will also enjoy freedom.

That's the status quo. That's how it's "supposed" to be.

It's your future. Take control of it.

A long time ago I decided working in the cut-throat advertising industry was a crappy way to live.

Sure I was working for high profile brands and doing great work, but it was extremely long hours for very little pay. And it was always followed by big (but broken) promises for future gain.

Eventually I'd be let go for cheaper or younger talent anyways so what was the point to continue on? So I took a risk and bet on myself.

I started a digital business that allowed me to work from anywhere.

People thought I was stupid for giving up financial security to pursue my dream. They believed it would be detrimental to my family. Their ideas for my future was not based on what I wanted, but what they thought was best for us.

Do the safe thing James. Avoid the risk!

And yet there are no guarantees in life no matter what we do. We can work our asses off for someone else or for ourselves and still have no promises for tomorrow.

Why not take a risk that leads to a happier, more rewarding life?

The truth is we all have the ability to take control of our destiny. We have the opportunity to create a future that satisfies our dreams. We have the right to pursue a life of liberty and happiness.

No one but ourselves can keep us from it.

Starting a digital business gives you greater freedom.

If you want to travel full-time but haven't won the lottery yet, being a digital entrepreneur gives you the ability to live your dream.

You might not become the next big Shark Tank business or millionaire, but you can definitely create a life full of enrichment. And for what it's worth, there are people with online businesses making millions of dollars.

But the goal is less about being rich; the goal is spending more time doing the stuff that really matters. Remember you can always make more money but you cannot make more time!

That's the essence of a digital lifestyle business.

If you want more freedom to explore the world this is a great option. It allows you to go sooner rather than wait for some day. It increases your odds of being lucky.

And it's not as difficult as you might think.

So should you embark on the digital adventure?

I can't say what your journey should look like, but I can tell you this – you will never experience the life you dream about by thinking about it or hoping for it.

My decisions have led me down a path that have provided one hell of an amazing adventure filled with gratitude. I've been able to climb incredible mountains, bask in the sun on amazing beaches, visit over a dozen countries, and spend more time with Donetta or other awesome people, simply because I chose my own destiny.

All of this didn't come easy and I'm not financially independent. But I have no regrets because all of my wealth has been in living to the fullest.

If you dream of a different future, one that allows you more happiness and freedom, you can also do it.

That dream is everything!

Do everything it takes to move towards it. You will never live with any regrets even if you fail.
