Three Day-Trip Ideas Near Sedona

Sedona, Arizona, is an amazing place to visit all on it's own - it's got amazing hiking trails, beautiful rock formations to see, a fun downtown area with tons of great shopping and restaurants, and plenty of opportunities to get out and see the surrounding landscape. It's got a little something for everyone - especially those who love nature. But there are also some pretty cool things outside of town and I wanted to share some of those with you as well.

Sedona, Arizona

We recently spent several weeks in Sedona so not only did we enjoy all that the town had to offer, we also got out and explored the surrounding area too. Here are some of the top things we recommend seeing if you're there and want to go a little further.

Jerome - this little hippy town is so fun! It's got a super cool vibe, it has tons of great little eclectic shops to visit, cool art galleries and shops, and fun places to grab something to eat or get a coffee. And the views from this town are amazing! It sits up in the mountains so you have the perfect opportunity to look over the valley and the mountains toward Flagstaff.

Montezuma Well - I wasn’t sure what to expect for this but we were pleasantly surprised. It was not only beautiful but fascinating too!

“The water in Montezuma Well has unusually high levels of dissolved carbon dioxide and arsenic, as well as calcium and other chemicals. This combination prevents fish from living within the Well, but is also responsible for the evolution of the five endemic (native plant or animals that are restricted to a certain place) species found within the Well.” - info from their website.

One of the species living in that water...leeches. I’ll stay out of there for sure!! Lol! The other fascinating part is that it’s a sinkhole. It's a collapsed underground limestone cavern that filled with water and more than 1.6 million gallons of water flows into it a day from vents at the bottom. This was just a beautiful area too and it has a nice walking trail so you can enjoy more of the area around the well.

Montezuma Castle National Monument - This offers a beautiful area to walk through where you can see the big cliffs and the cliff dwellings that have been built into the side of them. They're pretty amazing. I can’t imagine living on the side of a cliff like that. haha! As you walk around the area you can see beautiful trees and a nice little river as well. It's definitely a nice place to visit and a good place to get out and enjoy a little nature walk.
