Visiting Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego

This was something that we hadn’t planned as we mapped out all the things we wanted to do in San Diego. We just got lucky and happened upon it. We were headed toward the Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma to check that out and as we were driving there we saw this cemetery. Of course we stopped to check it out. You guys who know James know how he’s all about veterans and military things!

James and I walked around and looked at the cemetery for a little while and I just couldn’t get over the beauty of it. It’s so well maintained and taken care of. The grounds are just gorgeous. As you walk around the cemetery you get beautiful views of Coronado Island and of course beautiful views of the ocean as well.

There are so many veterans buried here - it’s both sad to see so much loss but also such an honor to know all these men and women served to make our country what it is. It was also nice to find that many of the veterans who are buried here lived to nice old ages and weren’t lost in the prime of their lives. We’ve been to cemeteries where a lot of the lost were so young and that’s so heartbreaking.

If you’re in the San Diego/Point Loma area I definitely recommend taking the time to visit this beautiful place.
